Formed two years ago in response to  increasing need and decreasing local resources for community and in home services to assist Pennsylvania's senior aging population, The Senior Support Coalition is composed of representatives of AARP; the Alzheimer’s Association of Pennsylvania; Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE);  PA Adult  Day Association; PA
In keeping with the theme of "There’s no place like home," members of the Senior Support Coalition personally delivered "Welcome Mats" to each of Pennsylvania's 50 Senators and 203 Representatives in time to greet them as they walked into their Harrisburg offices to take their oaths of office on January 6th.

There's No Place Like Home...
Coalition members point out that when surveyed seniors repeatedly say that they would rather receive help in their own homes from family and community service providers than be relocated to a long term care facility or nursing home. Coalition members also point out that the cost of helping to maintain aging seniors in their own homes is far less than placing them in a long term care facility.
Among the Coalition's goals for the new legislative session is to convince the Rendell Administration and the Legislators to return the focus of the state lottery to funding programs that provide the essential community and in home support services necessary to permit nearly 100,000 seniors to remain in their own homes for as long a possible.
